Student Involvement

Nicoletta Frankenstein, M.D., is a resident with a passionate interest in pediatrics currently at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Frankenstein has participated in the development of a mental health referral survey since its inception and continued involvement throughout the survey’s implementation. She initially became involved in SOAR-net because she wanted to continue doing research outside of her master’s work. Dr. Frankenstein was an active participant in many aspects of the mental health referral survey, including administering interviews to parents, interpreting data, and presenting a poster at the 2015 Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Medical Student Research Symposium.

Meredith Pesce, M.D., is a resident currently at NYP Hospital – Columbia Medical Center in New York who plans to go into pediatrics. Dr. Pesce participated in general pediatrics and SOAR-Net research from the fall of 2013 until the summer of 2014. Dr. Pesce began her student initiated elective during the early stages of development of the Parent Pediatrician Partnership Scale (PPPS). She was an active participant in many aspects of partnership research, including administering interviews to parents, interpreting data, and presenting posters.

Michael Perry, M.D., is a resident at near-by Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Perry participated in general pediatrics and SOAR-Net research from the fall of 2013 until the summer of 2014. Dr. Perry expressed his excitement that SOAR-Net encouraged medical students to be full collaborators in research studies. He was an active investigator in many aspects of partnership research, including administering interviews to parents, interpreting data, and presenting posters.

Michael Dressing, M.D., is a resident with an interest in pediatrics at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Michael began his participation with general pediatrics and SOAR-Net research in the summer of 2013. Dr. Dressing presented a poster on partnership at the 2014 Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Medical Student Research Symposium and traveled to Bethesda, Maryland, to present another poster at the National Practice Based Research Network Conference. Dr. Dressing also presented original research regarding childhood injury prevention at the 2015 Boonshoft School of Medicine Medical Student Research Symposium.

Maggie Sullivan is a third year medical student who began her affiliation with SOAR-Net during her second year. Maggie plans on continuing to be involved in research throughout medical school. Maggie assisted in the development of a poster on mental health referral for the 2015 Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Medical Student Research Symposium.

Jessica Zagory, M.D., is currently at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Zagory was involved in research on children’s health insurance and persistent depression in mothers.   

Mitali Pakvasa, M.D., is currently at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Pakvasa was involved in research on children’s health insurance.

Alyssa Gans, M.D., is a general surgery resident at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Gans was involved in research topics that included civilian and military mothers’ evaluation of a depression resource guide and the relationship between annual income, marital status and community connectedness.
